Valerie has custody of 5 of her grandchildren. Two of them are participants in the Stellie Jackson Tutoring Center, a Clover YMCA program that tutors children in the Roosevelt Community after school.
The program has been invaluable for her family. She can see a great difference in their grades as well as their reading and math comprehension. The program is funded by the YMCA annual campaign. Parents have the option of paying for the program with community service. The goal of the program is to help children master the education basics so they can succeed in the higher grades.
Stephanie is a young single mother with two children in the after school and summer day camp programs. The financial assistance campaign allows her children to attend the programs at a rate she can afford, enabling her to work. Since her son has special needs, being able to participate in the YMCA programs has been a true blessing. He is included in all the activities, and loves swimming lessons and therapeutic horseback riding. The Y has made a great difference in their lives.
